A contract on the renewal of concession for the Brajdica Container and Ro-Ro
Terminal has been signed for the period of 30 years on 28 December 2009 by Mr
Bojan Hlača, Executive Director of the Port Authority Rijeka, and Mr Goran
Manfreda, director of Adriatic Gate j.s.c.. The contract comes into force in
November 2011, after expiry of the current ten-year concession and applies
until 2041.
The concession for the Brajdica Container Terminal has been granted to
Adriatic Gate j.s.c. in 2001 – since then the Terminal has developed
partnerships with all leading global ship owners so that the Port of Rijeka is now connected by regular direct ship
line with the biggest ports in Asia and by daily ship feeder lines it is included in the
Mediterranean container system. The result is a multiple increase of the
container turnover, which amounted to 13,064 TEU in 2001; seven years later, in
2008, the turnover rose to 168,761 TEU.
The current projects at the Port
of Rijeka Container Terminal
are the following: an
enlargement project implemented by the Rijeka Port Authority with an investment
of HRK 189 million into the Brajdica Container Terminal; EUR 54, 5 million is the value of investment
of Adriatic Gate j.s.c. into the intensified investment cycle starting in 2010 until its completion in 2015. The
predominant part of the investment will be directed into the reconstruction of operational areas and
into railway infrastructure, as well as into new container bridges and other
necessary mobile machinery in
the period of the following five years.
